Evanston Subaru Flying Turkey 5k presented by NorthShore University HealthSystem
Race day: On Your Own – Your Town, USA
Although it may come as no surprise, we sadly announce that the 2020 Evanston Subaru Flying Turkey 5k run, presented by NorthShore University HealthSystem will not be an in-person event. State and local restrictions still prohibit us from gathering as a group at this time.
Having said that, we are committed to helping everyone stay as fit and healthy as possible for the remainder of 2020, and at the same time raising money and food donations for our charity partners Evanston Vineyard Food Pantry and Foundation 65. To that end, we encourage everyone to complete a Stay-at-Home run this year – and of course to get Flying Turkey gear for the whole family!
ANNOUNCEMENT!
The 2020 Evanston Subaru Flying Turkey 5k presented by NorthShore University HealthSystem will be a COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER and not our regular running event.
Our focus will be on raising funds for our local charity partners, the Evanston Vineyard Food Pantry and Foundation 65 and we encourage everyone to donate at whatever level they are able and here is how to participate:
STEP 1- Donate:
Visit our “new” online store and order some cool Evanston Subaru Flying Turkey 5k swag. Check out this year’s commemorative hat and other swag at the link below. For every item you purchase, $5 will be donated to our charities. Online store has been reopened! You can still order items until November 29th. Any items ordered during this second opening will be shipped 1-2 weeks after Nov 29th.
AND/OR
Donate any amount directly to these charities’ fundraiser websites:

Foundation 65: https://f65.z2systems.com/np/clients/f65/donation.jsp?campaign=89
AND/OR
If you would like to donate food items to the food pantry, there will be a collection box at Evanston Subaru, 3340 Oakton Street in Skokie, from November 9th to 14th. Any non-perishable items are accepted, but here is their “Most Needed” list:
Peanut Butter — 16 oz plastic size is about right
Jelly — usually grape or strawberry is the best; 20 oz size; plastic
Macaroni & Cheese — 7.25 oz box; we prefer not to get the individual cups
Tuna — 5 oz or 12 oz cans
Rice — 1-2 lb bags
These 3 things; 14.5 oz cans of Veggies, Fruit, Tomato products including sauce, pureed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, etc.
STEP 2- Run or walk your 5k:
Plan to run or walk 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) on Thanksgiving morning (or any day that week)!
Don’t have a route in mind? There are many websites that allow you to plot routes to run, like www.plotaroute.com. Be sure to stay safe and to socially distance.
STEP 3- Share your post:
After you finish your run or walk, be sure to post a photo to our Facebook page and your social media accounts using the hashtag #EvanstonFlyingTurkey5k so we can share the accomplishments together!
